2020 International Conference on Resource Sustainability was successfully held

On 13th December, 2020 International Conference on Resource Sustainability – “Sustainable Urbanisation” in the BRI Era (icRS Urbanisation 2020) was unveiled in the university of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC).
The conference lasted for 3 days from 13th-15th December, 2020. It was co-organised by Faculty of Science and Engineering and Nottingham University Business School China,UNNC and co-chaired by Associate Professor Faith Ka Shun Chan and Professor Hing Kai Chan. AssociateProfessor Tiantian Zhang is the chair of the local organizing committee and supported by our postgraduate students - Jia Luo, Ying Chen (both NUBS), Lei Li and Yuyao Xu (both SoGS,FoSE).
There are 133 scholars and experts from 64 leading universities at home and abroad registered and participated in this conference onsite and also online. 66 speeches were given in the conference.
The Conference received great support from international journals including Resources, Conservation & Recycling,Industrial Management & Data System, International Journal of Logistics Research and Applications, Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review. Some of the excellent proceedings will be recommended to the above journals.
Urbanisation has been a major driver for global economic development, but it also leads to a lot of urban challenges on social and environmental issues, such as poor infrastructure, short of natural resource, and environmental degradation. It becomes especially severe in the Global South and developing countries. Nevertheless, if manage properly it can couple with the sustainable development and the future sustainability, such as achieving sustainable development goals.
The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects to further accelerate the already-rapid development of urbanisation in the upcoming decades. The Conference serves as a platform for global researchers and practitioners around the world with diverse background and expertise to share the most recent ideas, outcomes, and practices on sustainable urbanisation with a focus on the BRI.
In the conference, the topics of interest mainly include the following six: Sustainable Building Environment & Construction; Waste Management; Urban Soil and Water Management; Urban Sustainable Development; Logistic, Operational Management and Supply Chain; Communication and Technologies. Altogether, there are 15 parallel sessions, 5 keynote speeches and 2 plenary speeches.
The conference has been playing a proactive role in bring scholars from different field of interests together for interdisciplinary research collaboration. The Co-chair of this conference Dr Faith Ka Shun Chan illuminated that this conference has been inspired on these major directions - sustainable urbanisation, healthy and green cities, undertaking future challenges on epidemic and climate change on top of urbanisation and rapid growth economy. Our next conference will be looking forward to addressing these issues continuously.
