On 14th May, Faculty of Science and Engineering organized a fantastic Yue Opera workshop to all faculty students and staff. It is part of the FoSE Liberal Arts Workshop series and FoSE Staff Casual Corner activities. More than 500 students and staff participated the activity onsite and have had a wonder Chinese traditional opera class.

In the opening ceremony, Professor Tao Wu, Dean of Faculty of Science and Engineering welcomed all the distinguished guests from the local communities and expressed his sincere gratitude to the support of local communities. The Faculty launched the FoSE Liberal Arts Workshop since last semester and it has been the fourth class in the series, following the previous three themed in music, poetry and sports.

Yue Opera is one of the most popular opera style, next to Peking Opera in China. It originated in the region south of the Yangtze River, and is especially popular in Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Jiangsu. The local Yue Opera Troupe performed several classical clips from popular plays like "Dream of the Red Mansion" and "Butterfly's Love". Students were immersed in the beautiful plays and impressed. Some students also signed up for the Yue Opera tutorial and had a chance to learn the movement and traditional costume.
