Seven FoSE academics enlisted in 2020 Zhejiang Provincial “5246” University Leading Talent Project

Recently, the 2020 Zhejiang Provincial “5246” University Leading Talent Project has just released the entitled academic list. Seven Faculty of Science and Engineering academics are selected to join the project. They are Professor Giampaolo Buticchi as Innovation Leading Talent; Professor He Zhang, Dr Xiaochen Zhang, Dr Xiaoling Liu as High Level Top Talent; Dr Bo Li, Dr Haonan Li and Dr Juan Wang as Outstanding Youth Talent. The 2020 Zhejiang Provincial “5246” University Leading Talent Project aims to cultivate a batch of leading academic or technological leaders in line with the strategic development plan of Zhejiang Province, for example, the eight key industries including IT, environmental protection, health care, tourism, fashion industry, financial services, smart manufacturing and cultural industry. There are three levels of sub-programmes, including Innovation Leading Talent, High Level Top Talent, and Outstanding Youth Talent. Among these seven academics, some are world leading experts in their research fields, some are endeavouring to deliver world-changing research, and some are young talents with significant innovation prospects and potentials.
Prof. Buticchi’s research focuses on power electronics for renewable energy systems, smart transformer fed micro-grids and dc grids for the More Electric Aircraft. Prof. Buticchi is one of the advocates for DC distribution systems and multi-port power electronics on-board the more electric aircraft. A sizeable share of his research is also related to the improvement of the reliability for the power electronics systems.
From an industrial engagement perspective, Prof. Buticchi has been engaged in projects with Italian, German and Chinese companies, mostly related to the development of high-performance electric drive systems or highly efficient power electronics converter.
Prof. Buticchi has been heavily involved in European Projects related to the smart grids and the application of power electronics to provide services to the power systems. He is author/co-author of more than 210 scientific papers in peer reviewed Journals and Conferences and he has been actively contributing with tutorials and special sessions at the most relevant international meetings in Power Electronics.
Dr. He Zhang, graduated from the University of Nottingham with a master’s degree and a doctor’s degree. He is a leading scientific and technological innovation talent in Zhejiang Province and the first level of Ningbo leading and top-notch talents. He is now the director of Institute for Intelligent Electrification of UNNC. In the past five years, Professor Zhang he has rich academic research achievements. For example, the applicant broke through the core technology of ultra-high power density and high reliability aviation start-and-start machine system, with the power density reaching 16kW / kg, ranking first in the world record of similar products, and awarded with the Cleansky Best Project Award in 2016.
According to statistics, Prof. He Zhang is researching or has completed more than 30 National Natural Science Foundation of China, New Energy Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, EU "Clean Sky" plan and provincial and municipal related projects. In particular, the research achievements in the field of multi electric aircraft have been highly recognized by industry and academia.
As a senior member of IEEE, Prof. He Zhang has published more than 60 SCI / EI journal papers in the past five years, and more than half of them have been published in the top 10% journals of SCI. Up to now, he has applied for more than 20 invention patents, including 3 international patents.
Dr. Xiaochen Zhang, international senior research fellow, graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology with a doctor's degree and a postdoctoral degree from Beijing Jiaotong University.
Dr. Zhang has been engaged in the theoretical research of high-performance high-power density motors, and has achieved rich results in multi-performance analysis in the interdisciplinary fields of electromagnetic, thermal, mechanical stress and fluid dynamics. In the past five years, has published 23 papers in top journals and has been cited more than 300 times. Authorized more than 20 Chinese invention patents. In 2008-2017, he had successfully completed several government grants as NSFC and Beijing NSFC, and participated in the completion of 9 projects such as "863" and provincial key research projects, and many other scientific research projects. 2014-2019 as the deputy director of the BestMotion Innovation Center of the University of Nottingham, had developed a series of ultra-high performance servo motors. 2016-2019 he led the design of next-generation high-voltage DC starter generator system for large aircraft in COAMC.

Dr Xiaoling Liu graduated from The University of Nottingham and joined Ningbo campus (UNNC) in 2015. Within only a little over 2 years, Dr Liu has built up a research platform from scratch to train undergraduate students, PhDs and support industry with 2 key labs, collaborating a joint lab with AVIC Composite group, she has recruited more than 10 researchers and secured in excess of RMB 25M to date from multiple sources, including famous international companies as well as prestigious state-level SoEs.
Dr Liu has held visiting fellowships at prestigious institutions in the region – NUS and National Tsinghua University. She currently focus on the research of polymer composites, especially the functional (biomedical, fire retardant, conductive) and sustainable (green, thermoplastic, recycling) composites; managing 7 major research projects, including a Zhejiang Provincial Innovation team and a MOST granted international base; and taking UNNC composites technology from start-up status to national recognition within China’s fast-moving composites industry.
Dr Bo Li is an Associate Professor in Structural Engineering at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC). He received his PhD in Civil Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2014. He is the recipient of the Ningbo Leading and Top Talent (level 3) and the Ningbo 3315 Individual Innovation Talent. Before joining UNNC, Dr Li worked as a senior engineer in a research institute in Hong Kong. His research mainly focuses on green construction materials and seismic design of reinforced concrete structures. He has successfully secured more than RMB 4 million for research projects and published in over 30 SCI journal papers in the field of civil engineering. He is the inventor for 3 Chinese patents and 2 US patents.
Dr. Haonan Li is Associate Professor in Aerospace Manufacturing, Doctoral advisor, Research Affiliate of The International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), Reviewing Committee of International Journal of Machine Tools & Manufacture (Top1 Journal in Manufacturing Engineering with Impact Factor of 8.0), Guest Professor of Zhejiang Provincial Key Lab of Toolings, Leading Talent of Zhejiang Province, Director of Ningbo Key Lab on Advanced Manufacturing, Leading Talent of Ningbo City, and Winner of Hiwin Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation. His main research include: high-speed/high-efficiency cutting and abrasive machining technologies, especially for difficult-to-cut materials, advanced toolings, and special machine tool systems. From 2015 to 2018, Dr. Li worked at University of Nottingham (UK). Dr. Li joined University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) in 2018 as Assistant Professor (one of the youngest academic staffs), and promoted to Associate Professor in 2 years as a special case due to academic achievements.
Until Aug 2020, Dr. Li has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles in the top journals in Manufacturing Engineering (30 article in JCR Q1 journals) with the total citation of 650 (Google Scholar) and H index of 15, among which 6 articles were awarded as “ESI highly cited paper” while 1 as “ESI hot paper”. Dr. Li cooridated projects including 2 at the national level, 5 at provincial level, together with several industrial ones with the total amount of 9M RMB (considering split credit).
Dr Juan Wang obtained his MSc and PhD degrees from the University of Nottingham, UK, and then worked there as a research fellow and lecturer in geotechnical engineering. She is currently an associate professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Nottingham Ningbo China. Dr Wang’s main research interests include transportation geotechnics, road materials and their applications, and shakedown analysis. She has obtained several prestigious research funds from National Natural Science Foundation of China, the British Engineering and Natural Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the National Key Laboratory and so on. Over the past five years, she published a number of papers and filed several patents. She is currently an editorial board member of an ICE journal, and also sits on several national boards in the field of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. In addition, Dr Wang’s module "Geotechnical Engineering 3" was awarded as Provincial Level First Class Undergraduate Module.
