Graduates of the School of Computer Science take up a wide variety of career paths after leaving the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China (UNNC). Many pursue further study at world-leading universities while others choose to work at highly-successful companies throughout the industry. Read about some of our graduates’ experiences below:

Ziqi Zheng

The years I spent at UNNC were a journey of transformation and discovery. I entered as an engineering student, but the university's openness and encouragement for interdisciplinary exploration inspired me to venture into the field of computer science, particularly in the area of artificial intelligence. That transition not only reshaped my academic path but also awakened my passion for research and innovation. Today, as a fully funded PhD student in statistics at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, I still carry with me the spirit that UNNC instilled - to think independently, to explore fearlessly, and to embrace change with confidence. UNNC was not only where my academic journey began, but also where I learned to pursue knowledge without boundaries.

Ziqi Zheng graduated in 2024 and subsequently pursued advanced studies in data science at Trinity College Dublin, where he successfully completed his master's degree. Following this achievement, he was invited to continue his academic journey with a fully funded PhD position in statistics at Trinity College Dublin, where he is currently conducting his research. His research focuses on statistical machine learning, especially on causal inference and Bayesian optimization.

Yuening Xie

UNNC provides us with a inclusive, open and free learning environment. I am encouraged to raise questions and think critically. It benefits my personal development and career development.

Yuening Xie, who graduated in 2024, decided to study MComp Information Systems at National University of Singapore and he hoped to become an embedded software development engineer. He was nominated for 2023 UNNC Golden Intern Awards, received 2023 Dean' s Scholarship, 2023 Zhejiang Provincial Scholarship and the award of 2024 Zhejiang Excellent Graduates.

Danzhao Cheng

UNNC decoded the essence of learning for me: it is not about passive absorption or meeting external benchmarks, but a natural extension of intrinsic curiosity and self-driven exploration. Here, liberal arts education shaped our critical thinking—enabling UNNCers to embrace diverse perspectives while maintaining independent judgment, and to form unique insights through intellectual exchange. This journey instilled in me a firm belief that genuine progress stems from continuous self-reflection and proactive cross-boundary exploration, equipping me with the ability and confidence to think independently and integrate innovation throughout my life.

Danzhao Cheng obtained her BSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science in 2018 and 2023, respectively. Throughout her studies, she embodied the interdisciplinary spirit championed by liberal arts education: achieving academic excellence with honors such as the President's Scholarship (Top 1%), while actively participating in student societies to broaden her intellectual horizons. Empowered by an open academic environment, she freely traversed disciplinary boundaries and pursued doctoral research in digital humanities with a full scholarship. Today, as a Senior Product Manager at Ant Group, she continues to create value at the intersection of technology and the humanities.

Yue Li

UNNC fosters an environment that respects each individual and provides a wide variety of opportunities for personal development. The university's core liberal arts philosophy - 'integrity and character first, academic pursuits second' - has been instrumental in my all-around development.

Yue Li obtained her BSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science in 2016 and 2020, respectively. During her studies, she founded CPU, the largest student society for Computer Science. Yue is a recipient of the National Scholarship, the Zhejiang Outstanding Graduate award, the Vice-Chancellor's Medal, and the Provost's Scholarship. She is also a three-time winner of the Dream Scholarship, earning the award in the Practical, Arts, and Sports categories. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computing, School of Advanced Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.

Yichen Pan

Studying experience in UNNC is good and inspiring to me. Experiences of working in the student's union helped me to build up the capabilities of organization and communication. In Computer Science at UNNC, I have the first time to do real-life development. It gives me the taste of leading a group, and practicing what I have learnt in the past.

Yichen Pan, who graduated in 2017, received a master's degree in Computer Science (MachineLearning and Systems) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and is currently a Senior Software Engineer at LinkedIn USA.

Jiang Siyi

The time I spent at UNNC was a precious memory etched in my life. It is a period that liberated a soul long oppressed by the rigid constraints of exam-oriented education. It transformed me from passive acceptance to active exploration and innovative thinking. What made those years truly invaluable was not the acquisition of advanced technical knowledge, but the cultivation of a spirit that the unwavering determination to seek truth. As the ancient Chinese proverb goes, "Reading ten thousand books and traveling ten thousand miles," and UNNC was precisely the cradle that nurtured such a philosophy.

Siyi Jiang graduated in 2012 and subsequently pursued advanced studies in computer science at Imperial College London. After completing her academic journey there, she immersed herself in the tide of China's high-end manufacturing, where she dedicated herself to applying AI technology to advanced industries and robotics. Currently, she serves as Vice President at Shanghai Foresight Technology LTD.

Song Zhang
