Graduates of the School of Computer Science take up a wide variety of career paths after leaving the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China (UNNC). Many pursue further study at world-leading universities while others choose to work at highly-successful companies throughout the industry. Read about some of our graduates’ experiences below:
The years I spent at UNNC were a journey of transformation and discovery. I entered as an engineering student, but the university's openness and encouragement for interdisciplinary exploration inspired me to venture into the field of computer science, particularly in the area of artificial intelligence. That transition not only reshaped my academic path but also awakened my passion for research and innovation. Today, as a fully funded PhD student in statistics at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, I still carry with me the spirit that UNNC instilled - to think independently, to explore fearlessly, and to embrace change with confidence. UNNC was not only where my academic journey began, but also where I learned to pursue knowledge without boundaries.
UNNC provides us with a inclusive, open and free learning environment. I am encouraged to raise questions and think critically. It benefits my personal development and career development.
UNNC decoded the essence of learning for me: it is not about passive absorption or meeting external benchmarks, but a natural extension of intrinsic curiosity and self-driven exploration. Here, liberal arts education shaped our critical thinking—enabling UNNCers to embrace diverse perspectives while maintaining independent judgment, and to form unique insights through intellectual exchange. This journey instilled in me a firm belief that genuine progress stems from continuous self-reflection and proactive cross-boundary exploration, equipping me with the ability and confidence to think independently and integrate innovation throughout my life.
UNNC fosters an environment that respects each individual and provides a wide variety of opportunities for personal development. The university's core liberal arts philosophy - 'integrity and character first, academic pursuits second' - has been instrumental in my all-around development.
Studying experience in UNNC is good and inspiring to me. Experiences of working in the student's union helped me to build up the capabilities of organization and communication. In Computer Science at UNNC, I have the first time to do real-life development. It gives me the taste of leading a group, and practicing what I have learnt in the past.
The time I spent at UNNC was a precious memory etched in my life. It is a period that liberated a soul long oppressed by the rigid constraints of exam-oriented education. It transformed me from passive acceptance to active exploration and innovative thinking. What made those years truly invaluable was not the acquisition of advanced technical knowledge, but the cultivation of a spirit that the unwavering determination to seek truth. As the ancient Chinese proverb goes, "Reading ten thousand books and traveling ten thousand miles," and UNNC was precisely the cradle that nurtured such a philosophy.
Studying at UNNC was a really great experience. I met a lot of excellent lecturers, tutors and smart fellow students. Many of students in UNNC got offers for further study from top universities and I feel so lucky to be one of them.
The exceptional faculty and top-tier academic resources at UNNC have laid a solid academic foundation for me, significantly enhancing my learning and research capabilities, which have been immensely beneficial to my career. The picturesque campus, along with its dynamic yet rigorous academic atmosphere, remains a fond memory that I cherish years after graduation.
