Dr Tengwen Long’s research examines long-term human-environmental interactions. His keywords of interest, such as climate change, Anthropocene, and agriculture, are highly interdisciplinary but all closely linked to sustainability. One strand of his current research looks at the impact of Holocene climate change, complicated by sea level variability, on the long-term trajectory of social/agricultural development in the Hangzhou Bay region. Reconstruction of the past can place current climate change-induced environmental challenges into a long-term context, which will guide the work in mitigating their negative effects and establishing strategies for future sustainable development.
