Happy Graduation Class of 2022

The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) has held the graduation ceremony for the Faculty of Science and Engineering Class of 2022 on 10 July. There are approximately 500 graduates in attendance of the celebration events inside the D.H. Lawrence Auditorium. Absent graduates, as well as the family and friends of graduates, are able to virtually attend the graduation via a global live broadcast.

Professor Nick Miles, Provost of UNNC, presided over the first graduation ceremony and delivered a welcome speech. In his speech, he commented that all graduation ceremonies are special. He stated, “it marks the conclusion of an influential period of your personal journey. The skills and experience you have gained here with us – whether in the classroom or laboratory, with a club or society, through volunteering or social enterprise – these will be of immeasurable value in the years ahead.”

He continued, “whichever path you ultimately take, remember to tap into your inner Nottingham values—your open mindedness and willingness to give back and help others will be what propel you toward changing the world for the better.”

Professor Fujia Yang, President of UNNC, also encouraged the graduates through his letter: “my dear students, the world we live in today still faces all sorts of problems and challenges. I hope that wherever you go from here or whatever you do in future, you will light up the world with your spark of fire.”

During the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor’s Medal was awarded to the EEE graduate Haoyu Fu. As the only graduate who won the Vice-Chancellor’s Medal, he said that his most memorable experience at UNNC was his participation in the university RoboMaster team. He started off as an individual developer and later became a team leader. He said, “I not only learned to incorporate the most up-to-date technologies in the field of robotics, but I also gained practical experience in managing a team.” Haoyu is graduated with a First-class degree and will continue his studies at Duke University in the area of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Yimeng Li, a graduate of Aerospace Engineering received the President’s Award for Outstanding Graduates for her exceptional achievements in both the academic realm and extracurricular activities. She told us that “UNNC is a young and unique university. I’m encouraged to debate for the right, break the barrier and become the person she likes. During my four years in the UNNC, I see more possibilities in the world.”

Another Coumper Science graduate Yue Wu gives faculty seven paintings as a present. These marvelous paintings echoed her life in the UNNC. She told us that thanks to the inclusive environment in the campus, she was able to develop her hobby and try many new things. With this experience, she decided to study Intelligent Systems Design in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, an interdisciplinary programme based on the integration of intelligent technologies, system theories, and innovation design approach.

According to the latest statistics, graduates who have already obtained job offers are heading to work at leading companies in the industry and graduates who chose to pursue further study are going to top universities.

This yearn there are 36 Master of Research and PhD students graduated with a wonderful research experience and honorable UoN degree. Shanshan Long, one of the PhD graduates expressed her gratitude to her PhD supervisor Professor Xiaogang Yang and the diversified research platform and resources provided by the University.

In the evening party organized by the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Professor Tao Wu also gave a speech to the graduates. He mentioned that the students have done a great job and are ready to start the new chapter of life. The Faculty will also back students’ development in the future.
