As part of the industrial lecture series, the Department of Civil Engineering hosted a live virtual guest lecture by Dr. Abhijit Kulkarni on November 19. Dr. Abhijit Kulkarni is a Design Engineer at LERA Structural Consulting Engineers, who has been actively involved in many industrial and research projects, including residential, commercial, and educational buildings.

During the presentation, he gave the students an insight into the design of steel structures from a structural engineer’s perspective. He also talked about the difficulties, challenges, and solutions covering some of the “real-world” design projects their firm has been working on, such as the 4 World Trade Center in New York City. An interactive Q&A session was hosted at the end of this lecture, where the students had a fruitful discussion with the speaker addressing their concerns and clarifying their understandings.

The purpose of hosting the industrial lecture was to allow students to narrow their focus on their career choice and pursue their desired career paths. With the keynote examples relevant to the respective area of expertise, our students will become inspired and motivated to elevate their knowledge and professional development.
