22 January 2021

Eating Laba congee, making dumplings, writing Spring Festival Couplets and cutting a window flower… These are how Faculty of Science and Engineering celebrate the Lunar New Year with staff members and students on campus.

Due to the continuous COVID-19 pandemic and the travel restriction, international staff and students in the faculty could not return their hometown, reunite with their family but they feel the love and warmth from the big family of FoSE. From the beginning of January 2021, the Faculty Office of Science and Engineering, together with the FoSE Party Committee Branch, has been organising a series of Lunar New Year celebration activities including New Year Gift delivering, Future Postbox project, and the more recently held small gathering activities to celebrate Laba Festival on January 20th.

In Chinese tradition, Chinese Lunar New Year starts after Laba Festival. Therefore, it has become a significant part in Chinese tradition to celebrate Laba Festival through eating Laba congee, a porridge consists of eight ingredients. Yesterday at noon, representatives from FoSE Party Committee Branch, gave out the congee in the atrium of PMB.
