The 7th International BIM Conference was held in Guangzhou on September 23rd-25th, 2020, with the theme of "Intelligent Construction and Construction Industrialization Innovation and Development". The conference invited more than 300 famous experts from home and abroad, such as academician Liyun Ding and other experts from survey and design, construction, operation, real estate enterprises, software manufacturers, BIM service companies and experts from the universities to discuss the technologies, products and talent training programs of the intelligent construction and building industrialization.
Dr. Georgios Kapogiannis, BIM director of MSc in Geospatial Engineering with BIM from the University of Nottingham Ningbo, was an invited guest at the conference and gave a theme presentation titled "Smart Society and Technology: Smart Cities and the Future of Construction".
The link between information management and manufacturing: modelling (digital technologies), LOD 400 (manufacturing), ISO 19650 (management). In order to close the gap between construction and manufacturing industry there is a need to develop a collaborative culture that will allow information exchange among stakeholders, ISO 19650, as well as continues input in LOD400 process during the project management lifecycle based as in RIBA2020. This process will help to reach Industry 4 and allow China to become the first giant smart country level where digitalization will help better day to day life for its citizens
“BIM is ready for the sunset, but the sunrise of digital construction is already happening in China!” he said.
Meanwhile, Tianlun Yang (PhD student from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, Department of Architecture and Built Environment) and his supervisors Dr. Georges Kapogiannis, Dr. Bing Jiang and Dr. Robin Wilson published a paper "Impact of Level of Development (LOD) 350 of BIM Models in Building Construction Documents Design" in the Journal of Information Technology in Civil Engineering and Architecture. This paper was selected as the best paper in the conference.
This paper investigated the problems in design management and studied the characteristics of Level of Detail(LOD ) 350 to analysed the impact of LOD 350 in BIM implementations, through case scenario to discuss impacts of LOD 350 in construction documents design phase and to assess the effectiveness of LOD 350 to improve quality of construction documents delivery.
