Recently, the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FoSE) at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) has announced that its Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Chemical Engineering have successfully been listed in the 2024 Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). The 2024 GRAS covers a total of 55 disciplines across five major fields: natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medicine, and social sciences. It objectively reflects the discipline levels of universities through indicators such as world-class faculty, world-class achievements, and high-level research outcomes. This year, approximately 3,000 universities worldwide participated in the ranking, and ultimately, over 1,900 universities from 96 countries and regions were enlisted.

Mechanical Engineering: Leading the Development of Intelligent Manufacturing and Automation Technology

The Mechanical Engineering at FoSE boasts high-quality teaching standards and facilitates industrial technological innovation. Professor Haonan Li, the leader of the Advanced Manufacturing Centre, has led his team in independently developing the "Desktop Five-Axis Machine Tool." This innovative achievement has overcome the disadvantages of traditional machine tools, such as the large size and high cost, and has successfully been commercialised, continuously undergoing updates and iterations in commercial applications. Throughout this process, students majoring in Mechanical Engineering have been actively involved. Lectures, experiments, and practical training enhanced students’ professional skills and practical application abilities.
