The 2024 Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) was released recently. The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) has seven subjects listed in the ranking this year, including Business Administration, Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Economics, Computer Science and Engineering, and Chemical Engineering, ranking second among Sino-foreign universities in terms of the number of listed subjects.
The 2024 GRAS contains rankings of universities in 55 subjects across engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences, evaluating universities based on indicators such as a world-class faculty, world-class output, high-quality research, research impact, and international collaboration. More than 1,900 out of 3,000 universities across 96 countries and regions are included in the listings.
UNNC continues to demonstrate strong performance in subject development. This year, UNNC's Business Administration and Management ranked among 15-25 and 33-46, respectively, in the Chinese mainland*; Economics, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering ranked in the top 100. Computer Science and Engineering and Chemical Engineering made it onto the GRAS list for the first time, ranking 86-103 and 172-203, respectively.
In 2018 UNNC became the first Chinese cooperative university to be included in the GRAS. The university has seen a steady increase in the number of its listed subjects, growing from two to the current seven. Notably, UNNC's Management has been featured on the list for seven consecutive years and Business Administration for five. Since 2020, Business Administration has maintained first place among Sino-foreign universities.
"In the 20 years since the university was founded, UNNC has continued to promote the building of a global team of talented experts to drive academic and research development," Professor Laura Bishop, Vice-President for Research and Knowledge Exchange at UNNC, spoke in particular about the 'World-Class Faculty" indicator, which was newly introduced by Shanghai Ranking this year. She said that in recent years, more and more UNNC scholars have made it onto prestigious lists such as "Top 2 per cent of Global Top Scientists" and "China's Highly Cited Scholars", demonstrating great progress in the university's academic development.
"We are proud that UNNC is being recognised by more and more international authorities. In the future, UNNC will continue to promote the development of subjects, empowering industry and promoting social progress through scientific knowledge," Professor Bishop said.
