2023 UNNC Summer Graduation Ceremony held

The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) is holding the 2023 Summer Graduation Ceremony on 15 and 16 July, with over 1,600 graduates celebrating this lifetime milestone.

Professor Nick Miles OBE, Provost of UNNC, presided over the first graduation ceremony and delivered a welcome speech. In his speech, he commented that these last few years have been extremely challenging, yet the graduates have all made it, with resilience, determination, and compassion for the people around them. They have won awards in various international competitions, and actively participated in volunteering activities and public welfare projects such as the National Games, Asian Games, and rural education, and have achieved remarkable results. These hard-earned accomplishments showcase dedication and resilience.

Professor Miles believes that the university has prepared the graduates for the future in the rapidly changing world.

Whatever path you take, I’m confident that the 'Nottingham spirit' will stay with you. The skills and experience you have gained here with us will be of immeasurable value in the years to come.

Professor Shearer West, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nottingham, on behalf of everyone at the University of Nottingham, also congratulated the graduates and expressed her welcome to this unique celebration of hard work and achievements.

Today you join an international community of Nottingham alumni who advance the name and the values of our University throughout the world. According to the latest statistics, among this year’s cohort of undergraduates pursuing further study, approximately 30% are going on to world top 10 universities and 90% to top 100 universities. As for those heading directly to employment, many will work in Fortune 500 or other leading companies in the industry like ByteDance, Louis Vuitton and PwC.

Li Li, a Zhejiang “Provincial Outstanding Graduate” winner in International Business Economics, clarified her future path through her exploration and experiences at UNNC, and received a Master’s degree admission offer from University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins University, and Duke University. "Our class likes to joke that we are the 'Class of COVID-19'. Yet, despite the many challenges, UNNC continued to provide us with many opportunities for growth and development, giving us full support," she said.

At the ceremony, the university awarded Honorary Professorships to Professor Chee-Wee Tan, Professor Dariusz Wanatowski and Honorary Assistant Professorship to Dr Dong Bin for their outstanding contributions and impact in their chosen fields. The graduation also conferred Lord Dearing Awards to honour the staff with outstanding achievements in enhancing the student learning experience,

Families and friends who were unable to attend the ceremony on site also sent their sincere blessings via diverse livestreaming platforms, wishing all the best for the Class of 2023.
