The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) is holding the 2024 Summer Graduation Ceremony on 13 and 14 July, with over 1,700 graduates celebrating this lifetime milestone.

Professor Xincheng Xie, President of UNNC, delivered a welcome speech at the ceremony. He commented that despite no doubt possible personal or external challenges along the way, the Class of 2024 has achieved remarkable results.

now, as you take those first steps towards your next chapter, I encourage you to reflect on the ‘Nottingham values’ that have guided you to this point. This is not simply about acquiring knowledge; it is about cultivating a mindset that values curiosity, critical thinking, and empathy. Carry these values with you as you navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Embrace uncertainties with the same courage that brought you to this moment. Take risks, challenge the status quo, and never underestimate the power of your ideas.

Professor Shearer West, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nottingham, travelled from the UK to preside over the first ceremony. She also congratulated the graduates and expressed her welcome to this unique celebration of hard work and achievements.

At the ceremony, the university awarded Honorary Professorships to Distinguished Professor Dr Keng-Boon Ooi for his outstanding contributions and impact in the chosen field. The graduation also conferred Lord Dearing Awards to honour the staff with outstanding achievements in enhancing the student learning experience.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Medal was awarded to Yifei Shao from School of International Studies, Min Rose, Interim Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange, and the UNNC Arts Centre team.

In this season of abundant harvest, the graduates of UNNC have won the favour of top global universities and renowned enterprises with their excellent academic performance and well-rounded personal qualities. As of 11th July, statistical data shows that among the 1,251 undergraduate graduates of the Class of 2024 who opted for further studies, 31% received admission offers from top 10 global universities such as Imperial College London, Oxford University, Cambridge University, and Stanford University. Additionally, 76.9% of the students were admitted to universities ranked in the global top 50, and 93.4% were admitted to universities ranked in the global top 100.

Meanwhile, most graduates who chose to enter the workforce have joined prestigious domestic and international companies and institutions, including Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Certified Public Accountants LLP, the Bank of China, Sinopec, and the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Gifts were also prepared for our graduates. The student affairs teams of the three faculties prepared adorable hooded Teddy Bear as graduation gifts for the graduates. The Development and Alumni Relations Office also prepared each graduate with an alumni graduation handbook, a practical resource collection that includes career development, industry insights, and networking opportunities.

On the ceremony, many families and friends came to the UNNC campus from all over the world to celebrate the success of the graduates and expressed their best wishes on site. Those who were unable to attend the ceremony also sent their sincere blessings via diverse livestreaming platforms.
