Mattia Miani

Team Leader in Business and Economics

Mattia is a certified trainer, instructional designer and lecturer. Before joining Nottingham in Ningbo, he worked for 6 years in Vietnam at RMIT University holding a variety of roles: lecturer, manager of enterprise and executive education and manager of co-curricular education. Before coming to Asia, Mr Miani spent time on international assignments in the United States, Canada, Austria, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. He is also a certified trainer and administrator of a number of instruments including MBTI®, Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI®), The Leadership Challenge™, the Leadership Judgement Indicator, Color Code®.

Shanker Dutt Bhatt

Executive Director of Teacher Training and Consultancy Programmes

Mr. Bhatt has over twenty years of teaching and leadership experience. He has been instrumental in the development of internationalised education for Chinese students for about 17 years. He was the Founding Principal of the International Curriculum Centre at the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China (Renda Fuzhong) and Nanjing Jinling High School. He was also the Academic Principal at the Beijing Luhe International Academy. Prior to embarking on the journey of Middle and High school education Mr Bhatt worked for various universities as a lecturer, program manager and researcher such as University of South Australia, University of London External programs, Gujarat University and IIT Mumbai.

Andrew Roberts

ESP Team Leader 

Andrew has been working in the field of EFL/EAP/ESP for over twenty years and has lived and worked in the UK, the Middle East, Russia, SE Asia and China. He is an experienced English IELTS examiner, ESP course designer/lecturer/author, teacher trainer and international presenter.  His background includes: teaching European Teachers on the EU Socrates programme, and teaching internationally as a CELTA, ICELT and DELTA trainer. He has classroom teaching experience in both UK state and private schools and educational management experience from being Head of EAL at a prestigious UK prep school. In 2009 he was awarded an ELT ’Oscar’ (ELTON) for innovation in English language teaching.

Peter Beech 

Teacher Training Co-ordinator    

Peter has 30-years’ experience of teacher training. He has previously worked in the University of Reading, the University of Greenwich, the UK Open University, and on a teacher development programme in Malaysia. His academic interests are centered on ways to make teaching more effective through the application of SLA research findings in the development of classroom methodology. He is particularly concerned with the role of the teacher as researcher. In addition to his work with teachers of English, Peter also works with teachers of all subjects in bilingual and international schools.

Martin J. Liu

Interim Dean, Professor of Marketing and Innovation

Prof. Liu worked in Procter & Gamble (P&G) and Unison Marketing Inc. in North America. He also has extensive experience in consulting working alongside multinational companies such as Saatchi & Saatchi, Ogilvy, Atos Origin and Keppel Group as well as governments in both China and Taiwan. He also consults for small and medium companies in consumer markets such as Canada, China, India, Singapore, Taiwan, United Kingdom and the United States. He currently holds the Associate Fellowship at the University of Warwick and the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Prof. Liu has research expertise in the area of consumer behaviour, brand strategy and e-commerce marketing strategy.

Peter Hofman

Associate Dean, Academic Development Professor in Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility

Prof. Hofman was a Director at Cyclus consultancy and a consultant for various international and local firms in the Netherlands in the areas of cleaner production, environmental management and corporate social responsibility. His consulting experience ranges from manufacturing industry to construction, education and healthcare. He also was involved in the evaluation of various technology policy programmes and environmental policy programmes of the ministries of economic affairs and environmental affairs in the Netherlands.

Dr. Derek Irwin

Head of School, School of Education and English

Derek Irwin is a specialist in functional linguistics and drama in education, and has published on student writing, classroom genres, and English as a Second or Other Language. He has trained teachers in China, Canada, Malaysia and Indonesia and consulted on curricular design in Bangladesh, as well as creating a number of degree programmes for the University of Nottingham. He is a fellow in the HEA, a recipient of a Lord Dearing Award and Camellia Medal for educational involvement, and a general advocate of theatre as a pedagogical tool.

Dr. Ashley Yoon Mooi Ng

Associate Professor of Education

Ashley Ng is Associate Professor in Education at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China, where she coordinates the post-graduate research programmes. She teaches on the MA in International Higher Education and supervises on both the EdD and PhD programmes. Prior to joining the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, she was the Director of Training for Future Leaders and Principals for the BCEDP programme, which trains more than 1000 school leaders - a joint partnership between the University of Nottingham Malaysia, the National University of Bangladesh and the World Bank. She also played vital roles in the professional development of international (Sri Lanka) and local school principals.

Dr. Candace Veecock

Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics / ELT Senior Tutor

Dr. Candace Veecock is from Toronto Canada and joined the University of Nottingham Ningbo China in 2015. She has an MA in English Studies, an MA in French Studies, a PhD in Linguistics and certification in TESL/TEFL. With over 12 years of teaching experience in Higher Education in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, English as a Second/ Foreign Language and English for Healthcare Professionals, Candace has also worked with adults in continuing education as well as with young learners with cognitive and behavioural challenges.
