The 17th UNNC Chinese Competition

12 April 2021

13 Apr at Siyuan Auditorium, the last competition of the 17th of UNNC Chinese Competition was successfully organized. 20 competitors from UNNC, Ningbo Polytechnic, Ningbo International School, and Huamao International School presented their outstanding Chinese language skills and rich knowledge on Chinese culture.

Professor Gary Rawnsley and Professor Martin Lockett delivered opening speech and closing speech. Provost Professor Nick Miles, Principals of Ningbo International School Mr Philip Biling and Mr Robert Yan, Office Manager of Confucius Institute, Director of Language Center, Director of Department of Campus Life, Director of Department of Human Resources and other guests from friend schools attended the event.

The competition at that night consisted of three parts: quiz on Chinese culture, Chinese words guess, and Chinese talent show. Different from other competition, the competition did not differentiate the performance of the candidates by scores or marks, but award them by their shining points specifically.

About a week ago, the Chinese competition online part received videos from international students who could not come to China at moment. In the video, they expressed their desire to come to China as soon as possible. Kevin Chen’s video, as the representative of all the online competitors, was showed at the night of 13 Apr.

To echo the theme ‘integration and collaboration’ of the 9th Ningbo International University Students Festival and the 5th UNNC International Education Week, the Chinese competition realized many ‘first times’. It was the first time for the UNNC Chinese competition to combine both online and offline platforms, the first time to have four departments in the university to organize the event together (Confucius Institute, Language Center, Department of Campus Life, and Department of Human Resources), and the first time to involve both Chinese and international candidates in one team.

Last but not least, special thanks to the great efforts from Mandarin Corner and Vis-à-vis!
