The Nottingham Ningbo China Beacons of Excellence Research and Innovation Institute was jointly established by Ningbo Municipal Government and the University of Nottingham, in Ningbo’s National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone in April 2020. Combining a world-class university with its advanced science and innovation and national development strategies working with local social and economic development, the institute aims to attract and cultivate outstanding researchers internationally, develop transformative and innovative research, unlock the commercial potential of advanced technology and accelerate local innovation while enhancing global impact.

The CBI looks to create a sustainable innovation eco-system with the integration of advanced technology research, outstanding talent cultivation and research knowledge transfer to solve global problems and change lives. We focus on the the four “ins” - international, interdisciplinary, innovative and interactive.

The China Beacons Institute leverages the unique Ningbo-based and global-oriented advantages of UNNC. By introducing the key international technological and innovative resources of the Beacons of Excellence from the UK, the intention is to attract global technology innovation resources. This will allow the China Beacons Institute to focus on original research and cuttingedge new technology development, the aim being to establish a world-class scientific and technological innovation platform with innovative research, research achievement transformation, technology transfer and talent cultivation, in order to support and drive the industry development of Ningbo.

The China Beacons Institute is committed to attracting talent from around the world and seeks to appoint proactive, mature academics who are self-driven and results-oriented, resilient and creative, with internationally recognised intellectual contributions in the relevant subject area.

Candidates should have:

  • A PhD degree in the relevant subject area;
  • Proven ability to plan and lead the delivery of research and teaching programmes;
  • A track record of publishing in top-tier international journals appropriate to the level of appointment; and
  • Ability and passion to work in the multicultural environment of UNNC and to explore research opportunities in China.

The China Beacons Institute also looks for academic leaders who have strong evidence of: attracting research funding and/or leading research projects; proven ability to mentor junior researchers; strong research networking to attract people and research funding. Editorial experiences at leading international journals are advantageous.
