Call for Papers and Panel Proposals

The University of Nottingham Ningbo China, China’s first and best Sino-Foreign University, is proud to announce the 2020 International Teaching and Learning Conference themed ‘Addressing Challenges in International Higher Education’. The internationalisation of universities presents transnational institutions with opportunities and challenges, in what are often different teaching, learning and assessment contexts for international students as well as educators.  The theme of this conference is to explore how we can more effectively engage in this challenging International Higher Education context, addressing the challenges to achieve more desirable teaching and learning experience and outcomes. This conference aims to bring together scholars, researchers, educators and graduate students to bring forth conceptual, constructive, empirical, experimental, or theoretical work to address the challenges in today’s International Higher Education sector. The conference will comprise of multi-format and innovative sessions ranging from keynotes, roundtable, panel discussions, applied digital workshop and students-led poster presentations.


Pre-formed panels and paper presentations for the following themes are invited but not limited to, on the following topics:

  • Learner autonomy
  • Curriculum design and development
  • Student and staff wellbeing
  • Employability and transferable skills
  • Student/Staff Development
  • Sustainability in IHE/ curriculum
  • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education  
  • Tools for assessing/ensuring quality teaching 
  • Digital literacy (both in and out of classroom)
  • Learning Analytics (for curriculum design/student support/decision making)
  • Effective assessment and evaluation 
  • Experiential and Interactive Learning


Paper abstracts of no more than 300 words should identify the relevance to the overall theme or one of the sub-themes listed above.  Pre-formed panel should comprises of the panel abstract in addition to the abstracts of the pre-selected four papers. Each paper presentation will last no more than 25 minutes (presentation and Q&A). The schedule of submission and confirmation are:  


  • 1 June 2020 deadline for submission for panels and paper proposal
  • 19 June 2020 acceptance of panels and papers
  • 22 June 2020 registration opens (accepted international presenters are encouraged to register as early as possible to allow time for visa application)
  • 3 August 2020 registration closes
  • 15-16 September 2020, UNNC International Teaching and Learning Conference.



All participants are advised to arrive in UNNC by 3 pm, 14 September 2020. The conference will last until 5pm on16 September 2020 and will be followed by an optional tour of the city depending on demand. Kindly note there will be a nominal 200RMB registration fee for external participants, which includes a reception dinner, two lunches and four coffee breaks during the conference period, and a welcome pack.
