General information about the workshop
International Workshop on Advanced and High-Valued Manufacturing Processes is a Sino-UK research forum to discuss cutting-edge manufacturing technologies responding to emerging demands and opportunities in China. The workshop is jointly chaired by Prof. Dragos Axinte and Prof. Xiaogang Yang, and supported by manufacturing industry and government in Ningbo. The workshop activities will cover two days including: one day presentations; half day panel discussion to identify avenues for collaborations; half day field visit.
A stakeholder group of various manufacturing sectors will be engaged in the workshop including academia, industrial partners and policy makers. Through broad consultations and practice sharing, the workshop will promote the advanced and high-valued technologies and encourage knowledge exchange.
Prof. Ping Cui
Ping Cui, Ph.D., researcher, doctoral tutor, worked as a guest scientist at the University of Saarland in Germany, the Center for Theoretical Physics of the Third World Academy of Sciences in Italy, and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Kyoto University, Japan. She is a researcher at the National Institute of Materials Science in Japan. She is currently Vice President of the University of Nottingham Ningbo. She mainly engaged in nanomaterials and internal friction research. At present, her research focuses on the preparation and physical properties of organic/inorganic nanocomposite polymer materials, the application of nanomaterials, and the internal friction of solid defects. As the person in charge of the project, she has undertaken the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the 863 Project, several major and innovative projects of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, several scientific research projects in Anhui Province, the State National Tobacco Administration project and several enterprise development projects. As a principal researcher, she was awarded the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Second Prize of Natural Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Second Prize of Changzhou Science and Technology Progress. She was awarded the Scholarship of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Special Allowance of the People's Government of Anhui Province, the Special Allowance of the State Council, and Ningbo City. Science and Technology Innovation Promotion Award, Zhu Liyuehua Outstanding Teacher Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences. She has published more than 40 papers, applied for more than 10 patents, and translated one book: "Nanomaterials" (published by Atomic Energy Publishing House in 1994).
Prof. Dragos Axinte
Dragos is Professor of Manufacturing Engineering in the Department of M3, Machining and Condition Monitoring (MCM) Research team. He held two NATO Research Fellowships in Italy and Denmark and in 2000 moved to UK to carry out research at the University of Birmingham and subsequently at the University of Nottingham. He was appointed Lecturer in Manufacturing Engineering (2005) and successively promoted to Associate Professor (2007), Reader (2010) and Professor (2011).
Dragos is Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineer (IMechE) and Fellow of the International Academy of Production Engineering (FCIRP).
Since 2009 he is the Director of the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre (UTC) in Manufacturing and On-Wing Technology. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture.
Prof. Chen Ming
Chen Ming (Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Shanghai Jiaotong University), winner of the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, Director of China Cutting and Advanced Manufacturing Technology Research Association, Deputy Director of China Mechanical Engineering Society, Member of China Tool Standardization Technical Committee, Abrasive Processing Senior member of the Technical Committee, selected by Shanghai Shuguang Project, member of the Shanghai Discipline Review Group, and Visiting Professor of Guangdong University of Technology. The main research directions include difficult machining material processing theory and process database, high-speed cutting / high-efficiency grinding theory and application technology, surface engineering and tool technology, and micro-machine manufacturing process and equipment. Up to now, the host projects include: National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Science and Technology SMEs Technology Innovation Fund Project, Aviation Science Fund Project, Enterprise Technology Center Cooperation Project, etc. More than 20 projects. In terms of academic publication, more than 100 papers were published in SCI/EI. Awards include: National Science and Technology Progress Second Prize, National Natural Science Foundation Outstanding Project Award, Shanghai Excellent Industry, Education and Research.
Prof. Chengyong Wang
Chengyong Wang, Vice President of Guangdong University of Technology, Doctoral Supervisor, Vice Chairman of Guangdong Mechanical Engineering Society, Founding Member of International Committee for Abrasive Technology, Member of Abrasive Professional Committee, Cutting Professional Committee and Mould Professional Committee of Production Engineering Branch of China Mechanical Engineering Society Editorial Board of "China Mechanical Engineering", "Diamond and Abrasives Engineering", "Carbide", "Superhard Materials Engineering" magazine; Guangdong Province “Thousand Hundred and Ten” Project National Training Target; He has served as Chairman of the International Conference; National Natural Science Foundation Major, Key, Outstanding Youth Fund Project Communications Review Expert.
He is mainly engaged in the research of high-speed, high-precision and ultra-precision machining theory, technology, tool and equipment technology for difficult-to-machine materials. His current research interests focus on high-speed machining theory of molds and auto parts and CAD/CAM, high-speed processing coating tool preparation; printed circuit board machining theory, technology, tools and equipment; biological tissue resection theory and medical device design and manufacturing; Superhard materials and their tool manufacturing and application technology; application theory and technology of micro-abrasive jet and micro-water jet processing in micro-machining; geothermal heat pump energy-saving environmental protection system technology application and other fields. He has undertaken 12 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (including 2 key projects of the Guangdong Joint Fund), a number of 863 subprojects, and provincial and ministerial level and enterprise projects.Professor Wang received the awards over the years, including China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award in 2018 for his outstanding research contribution to the micromachining of printed circuit board, the Guangdong Science and Technology Awards in 2007, 2009 and 2014 for his excellent contributions to the high-speed machining of graphite and hard-brittle materials, and ultra-precision machining of molds, respectively. He has been authorized 31 invention patents and 21 utility model patents. More than 200 papers have been published, and nearly 60 papers have been indexed in SCI.
Prof. Guilin Yang
Guilin Yang, Deputy Director, Research Fellow, Doctoral Supervisor of Ningbo Institute of Materials, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Specially Appointed Expert of the 1000-person Project of the Central Organization Department, the leader of the Innovation Team of Ningbo 3315, the flagship talent of the Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Zhejiang Robotics and Intelligence Director of the Key Laboratory of Manufacturing Equipment. The main research directions include: precision electromagnetic drive devices, flexible micro-nano robots, modular reconfigurable robots, rope-driven robots and industrial robots. Up to now, the host projects include: National Natural Science Foundation and Joint Fund Project, Key Project of Chinese Academy of Sciences, STS Project of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ningbo High-end Innovation Team Project and several enterprise cooperation projects. More than 20 patents have been granted at home and abroad. In terms of academic theory, he has published more than 200 academic papers, has been cited more than 3,000 times, and has written 4 academic books. Awards include: US Flexure-based Electromagnetic Linear Actuator (FELA) R&D 100 Award, Guanghua Longteng Award (2014) China Design Contribution Award, Singapore Industrial Technology Research Institute Best Industrial Project Award, IEEE International Conference (STUDENT 2010), (ICARCV 2000), (ICARCV 2000) Best Paper Award, IEEE/ASME International Conference (AIM 2008) Best Paper Award.
Prof. Ning He
Dr. Ning HE，is the professor in College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA). Prof. He obtained his BSc., MSc. and Ph.D. degree in mechanical manufacturing from NUAA in 1982, 1987 and 1997 respectively.
Prof. He started his researches in the area of metal cutting from 1982. Now, his research interests mainly include: high speed and high performance cutting, micro cutting, sustainable machining, analysis and control of machining deflection of monolithic components. He has served as a principal investigator for various key research initiatives sponsored by NSFC, MOST, and other research funding from government and corporations. Prof. He has published 2 books and over 250 Journal and conference papers, granted more than 30 patents. As principal winner, Prof. He won 4 items of second class awards and 3 items of third class awards of Minister leave S&T progress award, and 1 second class award of Provincial-level teaching award. Prof. He now is Vice Director of Society of advanced Machining, CMCTEA; Standing Committee Member of CMCTEA; Standing Committee Member and Deputy Director-general of China Production Engineering Institute, CMES; Member of Council of China Aero-Space Tooling Association; Member of Council of Green Manufacturing Society of China Machinery Industry Federation, Academic Committee Member of China Association for International Education; General Secretary of Steering Committee of IMCC; Member of Board of Coordination and Scientific Committee of International Conference on High Speed Machining etc.
Ms. Bing Wu
Bing Wu, born in 1986, graduated from the University of Nottingham Ningbo in 2008 with a major in finance and accounting. In 2009, she obtained a master's degree in business from Cranfield Business School in London, England, and served as director of the market development department of OSTROMINERIALS. In 2011, she returned to China and entered the work of the world's top 500 foreign company ACNielsen Consulting. In 2013, she returned to serve as the chairman of Ningbo Xiecheng Power Tools Co., Ltd. In March 2016, she won the 13th Youth Talent Award in Fenghua City.
Prof. Hongrui Cao
Cao Hongrui (Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Xi’an Jiaotong University), Alexander von Humboldt Fellow，CIRP Research Affiliate and The New Star on Science and Technology in Shaanxi Province, Member of China Vibration Engineering Society. The main research directions include spindle dynamics, condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of rotating machinery. Up to now, the host projects include: National Natural Science Foundation of China, The National Science and Technology Major Project, Enterprise Technology Center Cooperation Project, etc. In terms of academic publication, more than 60 papers were published in SCI/EI. Three papers were selected as Highly Cited Papers, which received enough citations to rank in the top 1% of their academic fields, according to ISI Essential Science Indicators.
Prof. Wenfeng Ding
Dr. Wenfeng Ding is currently a professor in College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), China. Dr. Ding received his Doctor Degree in mechanical engineering in 2006 from NUAA and his Bachelor Degree in 2001 from Xi’an Jiaotong University. He has also worked as a post-doctor in AECC Xi’an Aero-Engine LTD. (2011-2013) and worked as a visiting research fellow in the University of New South Wales, Australia (2013-2014). His main research interests are in grinding technology, superabrasive tools, machining simulation. He has authored more than 100 refereed journal papers, including 5 ESI Highly Cited Papers.
Dr. Haonan Li
Dr. Hao Nan Li, Editorial Board Member of International Journal of Machine Tools & Manufacture, Winner of Hiwin Outstanding Mechanical Dissertation, Senior Member of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Elsevier Outstanding Reviewer. Dr. Li received his BEng, MSc and PhD in Manufacturing Engineering from Northeastern University. Since Feb 2018, as one of the youngest academic staffs in the university, he has been an Assistant Professor (also Doctoral Tutor) in School of Aerospace at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China. For the moment, Dr. Li has published more than 25 SCI-indexed papers in the top journals in Manufacturing Engineering, among which more than 16 were in the JCR Q1 journals with the total citation of more than 300.
Dr. Anthony Beaucamp
Dr Beaucamp works in the Dept. of Micro-Engineering at Kyoto University, as Jr. Associate Professor specialising in the field of super-fine finishing technology. He is the fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), the member of the Japan Society for Precision Engineering (JSPE), the European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (EUSPEN), and the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). He has led the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and Young Scientists Project, Mazak Young scientist project and corporate cooperation projects. He has been awarded as the CIRP Taylor Medal, the Best Young Scientist Award of Kyoto University, the Outstanding contribution Award Jean M. Bennett of International Society of optics and Best Research Award of the Japan Society of Precision Engineering.
His research covers in-house department of novel processes such as ultrasonic cavitation assisted fluid jet polishing (UCJet) and shape adaptive grinding (SAG), as well as related aspects of ultra-precision CNC polishing such as control systems, and dedicated CAM software for polishing applications.
Dr. Wule Zhu
Wu Le Zhu received the B.E. degree in mechanical design manufacturing and its automation from Hefei University of Technology, Hefei, China, in 2011, and the Ph.D. degree in mechatronic engineering from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 2016. He is currently a Research Fellow with the Department of Micro Engineering, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan.
From 2014 to 2016, he was a pre-doctoral research fellow with Northwestern University, USA. From 2017 to date, he is a post-doctoral research fellow at Kyoto University, Japan. His research interests include design, modeling and control of electrocmechanical systems, ultra-precision machining of freeform optics.
Prof. Changhe Li
Dr Changhe Li, professor of Qingdao University of Technology. He has been awarded as Shandong Taishan scholars special experts, Shandong outstanding inventors and Shandong excellent teachers. He is currently the director of the Key Laboratory of Mechanical Design and Manufacturing of Shandong University, the deputy dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Qingdao Technological University, the member of the Youth Science and Technology Committee of the Production Engineering Society of China Mechanical Engineering Society, the member of the abrasive processing committee of China Mechanical Engineering Society, and the China Mechanical Engineering Society. Director of the Whole Processing Committee.
His research interests mainly focus on grinding and precision machining, high-speed ultra-high-speed machining and digital manufacturing.
He has led more than 10 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has published six textbooks, and more than 150 SCI/EI-indexed papers by SCI/EI, two of which have been selected as the ESI paper. He has owned 80 authorized domestic and world patents.
Prof. Qingzhen Bi
Qingzhen Bi, researcher of Shanghai Jiaotong University. He has been awarded: Award of National Science and Technology Progress, Award of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation Science and Technology Progress, Award of National Defense Science and Technology Progress. He is currently a reviewer of world-renowned academic journals: International Journal of Machine Tool and Manufacturing, IEEE Transactions on Mechatronics, IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering, Science China Technological Sciences, and International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology. He was also an ASME member and IEEE Society member.
His research interests mainly focus on special CNC equipment and intelligent manufacturing robot, specifically: Manufacturing Process Intelligence Sense and Machine Learning, Ultra-high precision equipment design and control, and Aerospace special robot.
He has led more than 10 projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has published one text book and more than 100 SCI/EI-indexed papers by SCI/EI. He has owned 30 authorized domestic and world patents.
Prof. Jun Cai
Jun Cai, deputy dean of Department of Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Beihang University. He has been awarded National Natural Science Foundation Excellent Youth Fund and selected into Ministry of Education New Century Excellent Talent Support Program. He is currently an initiating member of International Society for Biomimetic Engineering, member of American Society of Mechanical Engineering, member of the American Chemical Society, senior member of China Mechanical Engineering Society and reviewers of more than 10 world-renowned academic journals.
His research interests mainly focus on Bionic Micro/Nano fabrication, Multiscale fabrication and Bio-inspired structure/materials.
As project leader, his research projects include: National Natural Science Foundation of China - Outstanding Youth Science Fund Project, General Project, Youth Science Fund Project; Ministry of Science and Technology - 863 Key Project, New Century Excellent Talent Fund. In addition, he is the main research and development personnel of the projects including major assembly exploration projects, 863 surface projects, the National Natural Science Foundation projects. He has published 100 SCI/EI-indexed papers by SCI/EI. He has owned 10 authorized domestic and 5 American patents.
