Professor Tao Wu honoured by city of Ningbo

30 May: Professor Tao Wu, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FoSE), was honoured as an “excellent science and technology dream seeker” of the Ningbo Municipal for his outstanding achievements in scientific and technological innovation, international first-class discipline construction and the introduction and training of high-end talent.

Professor Wu, a Fellow of the British Royal Society of Chemistry, is also Dean of Ningbo Nottingham New Material Research Technology Institute. He has completed over 40 research projects funded by both agencies and industry. In the past 5 years, he has published over 70 papers in SCI/EI academic journals.

With Professor Wu’s efforts, FoSE has made outstanding achievements in education as well as scientific research and innovation. Joining UNNC in 2007, Professor Wu established undergraduate programmes including Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering, which won international accreditations for the high quality of education in 2016. According to the latest Careers and Employability Annual Report, 42.3% of FoSE undergraduates seeking further education went to Top 10 universities around the world.

In 2019, the Laboratory for Carbonaceous Waste Processing and Process Intensification Research was selected as one of the 2020 Provincial Key Laboratories. Led by Professor Wu, the laboratory has carried out cutting-edge research on organic solid waste treatment and resource utilisation.

Besides promoting scientific research innovation, Professor Wu is dedicated to introducing high-end talent. He actively promoted and contributed to the founding of the University’s new material research institute in 2015. Taking advantage of the University of Nottingham's research resources, he introduced advanced international new material technology and an international talent team of over 50 academics to Ningbo. He also invited Professor Xiaosu Yi, Li Dak Sum Chair Professor in Advanced Materials and Composites, and his research team to promote industry collaboration.

The accomplishments of Professor Wu have won him various awards such as National Outstanding Patent Award, 1st Prize for Science & Technology Progress in Shanghai Municipality, and 3rd Prize for Science & Technology Progress, conferred by the Ministry of Chemical Industry of China.
