The Si Yuan Auditorium
In September 2008, the University Auditorium was named ‘Si Yuan Auditorium’ to mark Dr Chen Tseng Tao’s contribution to the University of Nottingham Ningbo China.
Dr Chen Tseng Tao served as Director, Managing Director, and Chairman of Hang Lung Development Co. Ltd. between 1960 and 1990, before retiring in 1993. As a long-time and enthusiastic supporter of education development, he has been a member of various Councils/Advisory Committees of a number of educational bodies, including Fudan University, Nanjing University, United College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and etc. By generously giving his time, advice and funding support, Dr Chen has made a significant contribution to the advancement of tertiary education in Hong Kong and mainland China.
In 1997, Dr Chen and his wife, Mrs Chen Hsu Ching Ming, jointly created the Si Yuan Foundation, which mainly focuses on education development and medical research in Hong Kong and mainland China. The name “Si Yuan” highlights the spirit in which Dr and Mrs Chen created the Foundation – to give back to society and to the communities which have touched their lives, as a way of remembering the blessings they have received, and in so doing, to instill the spirit of philanthropy in others.
