Your Library is Back
(16 September 2020)
The new library of UNNC started its trial run and a soft opening ceremony was held. In attendance were special guest Mr. Chris Wood, Consul-General of British Consulate-General Shanghai, and UNNC President Yang Fujia, Provost Nick Miles, Madam Xu, Chair of UNNC Board, and Thomas Murphy, Chief Financial and Planning Officer.
Provost Nick Miles spoke at the ceremony: “I think that this new library is a bricks-and-mortar demonstration of what UNNC does so well. That is, our student experience is paramount - nothing is more important to us than making our campus an inspiring, truly global learning environment – a unique place to study, work and live.”
President Yang also encouraged students to go to library to explore knowledge by themselves. “All the books, resources and services are ready here. This is the way we teach and learn. This requires both diligence and creativity.”
After the ceremony, library staff offered a guided tour around the new library.

Naming Story & Background
Dr. & Mrs. Li Dak Sum, Dr. Kenneth Li has donated RMB40 millions in August 2017 to the University of Nottingham Ningbo China to continuously support the Li Yip Yio Chin scholarship. To thank Dr. Li and his family’s generosity, UNNC named its new library as Li Dak Sum-Yip Yio Chin-Kenneth Li Library. The new library building, covering an area of 7,500m², is located at the heart of the campus. The designed floor area is 24,832 m² in total. The construction commences in June 2018 and completes in 2020.
The Interior Design Project started from June 2019.
"The building site of this library was originally a little forest, which had a lot of plants and small animals. We want to return this small forest to you in another form.
In this renovation design, we will make clear the moving line of the whole space, divide the functions of leisure, privacy, learning, discussion and gathering, and connect the two entrances and exits with each main space. At the same time, ecological elements will be brought into the interactive public space to create a sustainable coexistence environment between nature, community and architecture."
