Conference Description

This workshop is organised by the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre in UNNC (SPMIC – UNNC). SPMIC – UNNC is an integral part of the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre (SPMIC) in the University of Nottingham in UK (UNUK).

In 1991, SPMIC was established at the University of Nottingham in UK to house the University’s expanding MRI research group, following Sir Peter Mansfield’s pioneering work in the early 1970s. Sir

 Peter Mansfield shared the Nobel Prize in 2003 for his contributions in the development of MRI. The University of Nottingham has long been at the center of developments in Magnetic Resonance techniques across the world, and MRI has always been and will still be a research priority across the University of Nottingham. The outstanding contributions of SPMIC were recognised in 2001 through the award to the University of Nottingham of a Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher Education. Now, the outstanding MRI research and education in SPMIC have been extended to the Chinese campus – UNNC.

 SPMIC – UNNC develops and applies magnetic resonance techniques in a broad range of areas, including researches on both hardware and software of MRI techniques. The key research topics include:

  • Hyperpolarized noble-gas MRI
  • MRI pulse sequence development
  • MRI hardware
  • RF and gradient coil design
  • Clinical applications of MR
