Earthquakes and Alternative Technologies: Earth and Timber Houses
Hugh Morris is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland, and past President of the NZ Timber Design Society, who teaches first year design to all engineering students and timber engineering to 3rd year Civil Engineers. He has been involved with timber engineering research projects looking at long term performance, multi-storey and post tensioned structures and most recently he has tested a number of houses in Christchurch following the earthquakes.
He has a research interest in seismic performance of earth buildings. Hugh served on the committee for the New Zealand earth building standards published in 1998 and is currently involved with their revision following the Christchurch earthquakes.
