Postgraduate Study



The Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies (CSET) provides the following postgraduate courses:


  • MRes (Master of Research) in Sustainable Energy and Building Technologies

This is a 1-year full-time research programme entirely based in Ningbo, China. The main aim of the programme is to provide students with a sound and coherent educational experience which develops critical intellectual faculties by application to the methods and practices involved in energy, architecture and environmental issues. Competitive advantage may also be gained by the graduates through maintaining the high levels of environmental conscientiousness which the programme advocates. The proposed programme is also intended to enhance the appeal of our educational activities to graduates and practitioners from various academic and professional backgrounds.

  • Ph.D Sustainable Energy/Building Technologies

The PhD programme offers flexible supervision between UNNC and the University of Nottingham UK (UNUK). Depending on the proposed research, students may be required to spend part of their studies at UNUK, but students will be registered at UNNC, and graduates will be awarded a University of Nottingham UK degree which is also recognised by the Chinese Ministry of Education.

Research activities are focused on new and renewable energy systems and components for both domestic (housing) and non-domestic (commercial and public) buildings.

  • Visiting Research Student Scheme

The Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies (CSET) invites applications by Ph.D. students to spend a period of time at the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China in order to work on their thesis under the supervision of one of our members of staff. Visiting research students will join our Ph.D. programme and are generally expected to give an oral presentation to the Ph.D. colloquium as well as produce one written research paper during their stay.
