Note: For the 2+2 study model courses, the student will spend the last two years at our UK campus. For the 4+0 study model courses, the student will spend the entire degree programme in Ningbo, China with 'study abroad' opportunities from year three.

Entry requirements

Depending on your academic and English language qualifications, you may be eligible for a traditional three-year degree programme, or a four-year programme with a preliminary year. The preliminary year enables you to gain the subject-specific knowledge and skills required to embark on degree-level studies.

If you are a mainland Chinese student, your Gaokao score should be in the first division as a minimum requirement, and your English test score should be no less than 115/150. For more details, please check the Chinese prospectus.

English language requirements

If your first language is not English, you are required to provide evidence of your proficiency in English. The minimum requirements for our preliminary year entry are listed below:

  • IELTS 5.5 with no less than 5.0 in any element
  • PTE Academic 59 (minimum 53)
  • TOEFL iBT 80 (minimum 17 in Writing and Listening, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking) 

The minimum requirements for our qualifying year entry are listed below:

  • IELTS 6.5 with the writing band no less than 6.0
  • PTE Academic 71 (minimum 65)
  • TOEFL iBT 90 (minimum 19 in Writing) 

Minimum age requirements

You should be at least 18 years of age on admission to the University. The date of “admission” is defined as the first day of September in the relevant academic year. Course overview

This course is designed to offer both a general understanding of computer science as well as specialist skills in artificial intelligence. Through its optional module choice, this course also provides you with the opportunity to study computer science in the context of robotic systems.

In addition to fundamental computer science classes and laboratories, this course covers topics including expert systems, intelligent agents, the history and philosophy of artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, neural networks, heuristic optimisation and other intelligent systems.

If you choose introductory and advanced robotic options, you will be able to experiment with mobile robots in both group and individual projects.

Course structure

The degree is offered as a three or four-year programme depending on your entry qualification.

For domestic students, the course structure follows the Chinese higher education system. It is based on a four-year program with the possibility of spending two years at The University of Nottingham's UK campus.

For international students, with relevant qualifications, the course structure follows the UK higher education system. It is based on a three-year program with the possibility of spending two years at The University of Nottingham's UK campus.

Accreditations

Our BSc Computer Science degree course has been accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS), and an exemption is granted from parts one and two of the BCS examination.

Study abroad

You will have the opportunity to spend a period studying abroad through a university-wide programme. There are also opportunities to study at our UK or Malaysia campus through the inter-campus exchange programme.

The University of Nottingham is a member of the Universitas 21 (U21) consortium - an international network of research-intensive universities. During your studies here, you can apply to spend a semester studying at one of the partners in U21 or many other institutions.

Inter-campus exchange programme

There are exchange opportunities between the China, UK and Malaysia campuses as well.

Our graduates are qualified for a wide range of jobs which require a combination of technical excellence and an international perspective. Among the 57 graduates from BSc Hons Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence in 2020, 49 chose to continue their studies. 59.1% of them were admitted into the top 50 universities in the world. 4 graduates were admitted into PhD programmes at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China.
