Biography

Dr Jian Yang is currently an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering (Dynamics and Control) at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC). He obtained his PhD from the University of Southampton UK in nonlinear mechanical vibrations. Prior to that, he did his BEng in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), China. Before taking the current position at UNNC, Dr Yang worked as a research fellow under the supervision of Prof. Jonathan Cooper (FREng, President of the Royal Aeronautical Society) in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, University of Bristol. The work there was primarily concerned with aeroelasticity and morphing aircraft wing structures, funded by European Union Clean Sky and Framework 7 projects. Dr Yang has been a member of RAeS (Royal Aeronautical Society), A fellow of Advance HE (UK), a member of ASME (American Institute of Mechanical Engineers), a member of AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics), a member of IIAV (International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration), a senior member of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES) and a reviewer for many international journals. He has acted as PI of a NSFC project and two Ningbo NSF projects. All PhD students whom Dr Yang supervised as the principal supervisor have found faculty positions in top Chinese Universities.
