STAR Career Talk: Not just being yourself, choose to be

    Multifunction Room 01, New Library

Abstract:

Life is all about choices, and one of the most important choices to make in life is to choose one’s career path. People usually tell us: be true to yourself and follow your heart to navigate life and career. Yet in practice, it is not always easy to be who you are and connect what you know about yourself with what you can do and then excel in life.

Addressing this puzzle, Vicky Tian, Co-founder of Chosen Art, explains that the key to a fulfilling life is not just about being yourself, but about CHOOSING to BE your passion, your values, and your character. Eventually, these qualities can take you to new opportunities where you belong. In this December’s STAR Career Talk, Vicky will share with us her multiple careers in the corporate sector and as an entrepreneur covering areas like finance, talent development, and innovation education.

Vicky will initiate an innovative and dynamic dialogue with UNNC students to explore the following career aspects:

1. Make the first job choice

As a young university student, what's the choice of your first job?

2. Measure your job and career choices

Why are you making this choice and how do you know if it’s the right one? What measures are you using to evaluate your choice? Are you sure these measures are appropriate?

3. Courage and struggles

Individuals seldom make important decisions without effort and struggle. When facing dilemmas, how can you stay true to yourself and where can you gain the energy to overcome all the expected and unexpected obstacles? Can one person have more than one career in life? If so, how can you ensure career transitions become successful?

4. Can you choose to be yourself?

Let's see if it’s true by taking a little test.
