描述

Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) China invites you to attend a public lecture presented by Vladimír Kočerha from Economic and Commercial Office of Peru in Shanghai, China.

About the lecture

China-Peru economic relations date back to many centuries which included the migration of tens of thousands of Chinese citizens to Latin America beginning in 1849, particularly Peru. Presently, close to eight per cent of the Peruvian population has some sort of Chinese ancestry.

Fast-forward to the 1970s, after the establishment of diplomatic relations between Peru and China, trade was slow at first but in the past ten years it has experienced an amazing growth. This led to the negotiation and signing of a free trade agreement (FTA) that entered into force in March 2010. As a consequence, China became in 2011 and 2012 the major trading partner for Peru. Moreover, there is a keen interest of Chinese companies to invest in Peru, particularly in the mining and fisheries industries.

This is just the beginning of a closer relationship and cooperation between Peru and China, as there are endless opportunities for Chinese companies to invest in Peru.

Nowadays, Peru is working together with three strategic partners in the region (Chile, Colombia and Mexico) to establish what is known as the Pacific Alliance. The four countries share several things in common, but particularly, its open-market policies and trade promotion. This is bringing greater and newer opportunities for cooperation and business with Chinese firms to which younger generations should take advantage.
