I am grateful for everything I acquired during my four years at University of Nottingham. Graduation from the UoN enabled my courage and curiosity which drives me to chase what I want to do day by day. I graduated with a BSc Environmental Sciences degree in 2013 and then completed an MSc in Environmental Engineering and Management at Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada between 2014-2015. I have continued my career in Canada and China and am helping entrepreneurs and students deal with intellectual property issues and fundraising. I am based in Vancouver, Canada.
Message from our Head of School:
Welcome to the School of Geographical Sciences!
We are a small and friendly school who put students at the very heart of our activities. Not only does the school have some of the best teaching scores in the university, our students’ learning is informed by our research to ensure that they receive state-of-the-art knowledge and training in the field of environmental sciences. Our students can also benefit from the opportunity to study at our UK and Malaysia campuses or at one of our partner universities around the world.
The school is based within the Faculty of Science and Engineering and our research crosses the spectrum of natural and social sciences. Our work addresses global research challenges of societal significance with a focus on water (including urban flooding, river hydrology, marine ecosystems and coastal defence), soils (including soil contamination and remediation), climate change (glaciology) and natural resource management (including fisheries management). We also have expertise in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), mathematical modelling and navigation.
We are extraordinarily proud of students and their achievements. Most of our graduates move on to study at some of the world’s most prestigious universities, including Oxford (UK), Imperial (UK), Chicago (USA), University College London (UK), Melbourne (Australia) and Tokyo (Japan), and gain employment with companies such as Atkins Global, Nielson Associates and PriceWaterhouseCooper after graduation. Some of our alumni have also established their own environmental consultancy companies to address some of China’s considerable environmental challenges.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our school, research or degree programmes.
We look forward to seeing you at our beautiful campus in Ningbo!
