Expertise Summary
Dr Evers has conducted research for government departments, elite sporting organizations, community groups, media outlets and private industry. He is currently involved in a number of research projects. For example, Informal Urban Street Markets, Masculinity in China, Social Cohesion and Sport, New Media for Social/Civic Purposes, and Fishing Communities.
Dr Evers has published government reports and academic articles in highly regarded international journals. He is an experienced media commentator and has written opinion articles for numerous print and online publications, as well as been a commentator in the radio and television mediums.
In 2010 Melbourne University Press published Dr Evers’ first book,
Notes for a Young Surfer
. He is currently editing a book about Informal Urban Street Markets (with Dr Kirsten Seale from RMIT). Dr Evers is also writing a book about experiences of masculinity in China.
Dr Clifton Evers is a member of the International Association of Cultural Studies, and editor-in-chief for the online humanities journal

Dr Evers is an Adjunct Lecturer at the Journalism and Media Research Centre, University of New South Wales, Australia and an Honorary Associate of the Gender and Cultural Studies Department at the University of Sydney, Australia. He is also a consultant academic on the ‘Mining for a Safer Masculinity’ project, being run by Factive Consult.ancy (Australia and Canada)
Teaching
Dr Evers teaches undergraduate and postgraduate modules. A key focus of Dr Evers is applying his research to teaching (and using his teaching as a spur to his research). His teaching is strongly oriented towards inspiring students to take the best of traditional approaches and theories, and to combine this with innovative approaches. Importantly, his teaching practice always seeks to understand and frame learning from the student perspectives and from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
