International Summer School 2014
Based at our award-winning campus in China, the Summer School will give you the chance to study a new subject overseas while learning about a different culture first-hand.
Early Bird discount opportunity:
If you pay the full fee by 15 March 2014 you will enjoy a 10% early bird discount.
There are two programmes to choose from, each lasting two weeks, starting on Saturday 21 June 2014 and finishing on Saturday 5 July 2014. Each programme is made up of taught lessons and cultural visits.
This programme will consider globalisation from various aspects, particularly some East Asian perspectives through the prism of uses of English in China. (Click the title to see detail introduction)

The opportunity to travel and experience China is a remarkable one. No other country has as much variety, depth and history. As part of our Summer Schools we include a number of trips that will provide you with a fantastic chance to explore this amazing country at a time of rapid change.
On the doorstep of the campus is the city of Ningbo, which has been described as ¡°the engine of the economy on the east coast of China¡±. This trip will be an opportunity to familiarise yourself with the local environment and visit the local scenic spot, the Tianyi Library near Moon Lake.
The beauty of Hangzhou
As one of the most renowned and prosperous cities in China for the last 1,000 years, Hangzhou is set in beautiful scenery and is full of historical relics. Visit some of the city’s most popular sites including the lovely West Lake.
The financial heart of China: Shanghai
There will be a trip to Shanghai during the middle weekend leaving on Saturday morning, giving you two days to experience the delights of this amazing city. Visits and walkabouts will be carefully chosen to relate to the academic themes of the courses on offer in the Summer School.
Please note: All excursions are optional but included in the cost. Alternatively you may use the free time allocated to visit areas independently, at your own expense.

Free airport pickup service will be available in both Ningbo and Shanghai Pudong airport on Saturday 21 June 2014 if you tell us your travel arrangement in advance.
The programmes are delivered at university undergraduate level 2. While no formal academic requirements are necessary, all the programmes are delivered in English and students are expected to have good English language ability of IELTS 6.0 , with no less than 5.5 in any element, or equivalent. Anyone fulfilling these entry requirements is eligible to apply, including undergraduates, postgraduates, academics and those in employment in any industry, anywhere in the world. Students must be aged 18 or over.

Each two-week programme costs 9500 RMB per person. If you pay the full fee by 15 March 2014 you will enjoy a 10% early bird discount.
For University of Nottingham and Universitas 21 students the fee is 7500 RMB per person. A deposit of 20% is required on booking. The early bird discount is not available to Universitas 21 and University of Nottingham students.
The cost includes:
• all tuition and classroom support costs
• accommodation on campus for the duration of the programme
• all cultural and social programmes
• breakfast and lunch (Chinese style)
The cost does not include:
• dinner (which is very reasonably priced in China)
• insurance (students need to sort out their own overseas travel insurance before they leave their home country)

Acccommodation & facilities
As a Summer School student, you will stay in purpose-built accommodation on the Ningbo Campus. Based in the Ningbo Higher Education Park, this spacious, modern site offers first-class amenities, including a library, teaching and IT facilities, accommodation for all students and staff, restaurants and shops, and a dedicated sports complex. Catering facilities are also provided on campus.

Once students are formally accepted for the International Summer School, the Summer School team will issue an invitation letter for each student. It is advised that student apply for a tourist visa (L visa) to China. Detail information on how to apply for a tourist visa please consult your local Chinese embassy.
