Position: Secretary/Assistant, Faculty Office of Science and Engineering

Qualifications:
Essential: Master Degree holders; Good English communication skills; Proven IT skills and excellent interpersonal skills are essential; Experience of overseas study or working in an international setting and/or education organisation preferred; Ability to work well under pressure, Ability to work independently and proactively within a team; Ability to identify and set priorities and ability to work accurately and to deadlines are essential; Ability to work at weekends or during holidays occasionally if requested.
Desirable: Degree in Science or Engineering related discipline; Strong analytical problem-solving ability and experience in organizational management practice.
Salary & Benefits: 69,000RMB – 110,000RMB per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintain the MSc courses in the Faculty, providing professional and efficient front-line reception and academic services to students and staff in person, by telephone, email and in writing, which include general office maintenance, coursework submission and related administration, registration, administration of exams, module outlines and other materials;
• Obtain knowledge of all relevant areas to be able to give out specific advice to students, staff and other visitors;
• Interrogate and interpret the University’s student records database to provide accurate student, module and course information as required to produce transcripts, letters and other paperwork in response to requests from students, former students and staff;
• Provide administrative support to academic staff as appropriate in the Divisions within the Faculty of Science and Engineering;
• Liaise with Divisions and other departments at UNNC and other campuses to ensure appropriate flows of information;
• Proactively liaise with academic colleagues to collect, collate and circulate relevant information as appropriate to ensure administrative deadlines are met;
• Arrange research seminars and conferences for Faculty of Science and Engineering and take minutes if required;
• Liaise with Faculty staff and University research office for fund application and management;
• Maintain the posters and displays within the Science and Engineering Building and keep them up to date;
• Update Faculty webpages and staff profiles;
• Participate in training and staff development, as trainer or trainee as appropriate, to develop and foster relevant expertise and awareness;
• Maintain a proactive and flexible approach to delivering work objectives and assisting other team members as and when appropriate;
• Undertake other duties, including responsibility for the general organisation and tidiness of the Faculty Office and reception area, and undertake other projects assigned by the Team Leader, including work in other Academic Services offices if required.

Qualifications:
Essential: Diploma or above in Computer Science, information technology or Engineering, related discipline; Experience of computer systems, including Windows & Linux(UNIX) based desktops & Servers; Excellent communications and interpersonal skills; Wide range of IT skills; Good understanding of PC and server hardware, operating systems and applications including maintenance and repair procedures; Knowledge of patching, supporting, administering and configuring server operating systems and applications; Understanding of LAN/WAN communications; Understanding of LDAP and directory services; Understanding of network printing; Good problem solving skills; Use and development of Computer based services; Provision of IT support; Fluency in English (spoken and written) is essential; CET 6 or equivalents; Willingness to work flexibly and to provide some out of hours support; Ability to work under own initiative and as a member of a team; Good organisational skills; Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students, with a positive approach to customer care; Must be able and prepared to work under pressure.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide 1st line and 2nd line IT support for staff and students within the UNNC;
• To be responsible for the day to day delivery of specific services including front-line support for use of all IS computing facilities;
• Support and maintain university centralized services and business systems and peripherals equipment;
• Purchase, installation, testing, upgrading & maintenance of computer hardware, Windows/Linux operating systems, servers, software, printers and peripherals equipment;
• To assist with induction and Information Skills Training for Staff. To deliver introductory lectures to train groups of students with similar needs;
• To highlight any discrepancies or improvements that might be made to existing services or documentation. To suggest new changes to services in response to customer feedback;
• To ensure that all customers adhere to the regulations about behaviour in order to maintain an acceptable standard and a suitable learning environment in the university;
• To actively keep up to date with the services that IS provides and any new developments. To pursue a programme of continuing personal development, including development of specialist skills and knowledge required for the particular service/subject area. Attendance outside the role holder’s normal working hours may be required;
• To provide guidance and consultancy to the wider academic community in the design and development of computing services and associated to support teaching, administration and learning activities;
• To keep up to date with hardware and software developments in the field. Attempt, through the combination of training and observational skills, to develop and expand the depth and breadth of related knowledge and skills;
• To integrate network server infrastructure and business computing platforms including Unix/Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Portal technologies;
• To perform related duties that may be required from time to time;
• Some out of hours on-call support will be required;
• Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the person appointed.

Position: Environmental Engineering Technician, Division of Engineering

• To provide support for teaching and research in engineering and related subjects;
• To demonstrate laboratory skills to students;
• To assist students and staff with experiments;
• To provide day-to-day management of the laboratory, including safe laboratory practice;
• To ensure the disposal of materials, to work in an orderly manner, observing the University’s health and safety policies and the specific rules of the workshop and laboratories safety regulations;
• To assist with the ordering of materials and equipment;
• To maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, tidy and efficient condition;
• To maintain documentation of materials and processes used, as reference material.
