BArch (Hons) Architecture (4+0)
Course outline
The course is based upon project work, some of it analytical, but mainly engaged with innovative problem solving, growing in complexity as the course develops. Project work is supported by lectures in Architectural Sciences and Humanities. A study of historical precedent and environmental design are central to the design component of the course.
The overall aim of the foundation Year (Year 1) curriculum is to help students succeed in their future studies at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China (UNNC). The foundation year equips students with the language and study skills that they need to manage their studies independently and to meet the demands of their future academic course. The academic English language courses are provided by the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) and the content courses are organised by lecturers from various academic departments within UNNC. The Introduction to English at UNNC module is non-credit bearing and is intended to be an intensive introduction to academic English and studying in an English-speaking environment. All other modules in are credit-bearing and students study a combination of academic English courses and content courses which are designed to develop the specific language and study skills they will need for their future degree course.
In the second year, students initially undertake design projects with limited objectives, proceeding by stages to the design of a small building. In the third year, they design within the wider context of human settlements and environmental concerns. During the final year, the urban context generates complex design projects that similarly develop problem-solving skills in aesthetics, planning, building construction and building performance.

The degree is offered as "4+0" degree. All four years are delivered in China at the university of Nottingham, Ningbo.
