BSc (Hons) Computer Science and Management Studies (2+2)

Course outline

The objective of this course is to produce high-quality graduates equipped to bridge the gap between leading-edge computer technology and its application in the management of commercial and industrial enterprises.

The course develops skills required by computing professionals and managers alike. These include project management skills, the ability to schedule work, plan exercises and take part in and run meetings, team-working and delegation skills and the ability to combine the skills of specialists. All this is underpinned by a solid grounding in relevant theoretical and practical aspects of Computer Science.

Course structure

Year One (Preliminary Year - Ningbo)

This year of the course is undertaken at the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China. The first year consists in a specially designed intensive Academic English Programme designed, written and staffed by the highly experienced Centre of English Language Learning (CELE) at the University of Nottingham. This programme is carefully integrated with an academic programme designed to prepare students fully for years 1-3 of the degree programme. For further information click here|.

Year Two (Qualifying Year - Ningbo)

This year of the course is undertaken at the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China. You will be introduced to key concepts in economics and organisational behaviour. You will learn how to program in Java, study software engineering and learn how these skills can be applied in business. You will also select one module in the Autumn semester from a list of options in International Business, and one module in the Spring semester from a list of options in Computer Science.

Year Three (Part I - Nottingham)

This year of the course is undertaken at the University of Nottingham UK. In this year you will deepen and extend your knowledge of software systems and their construction. You will learn about databases and the design of large scale software systems. You will study business organisations in more detail and learn more about the use of technology within those organisations. You will also select two optional modules from a range available within the School of Computer Science and two more from the Business School.

Year Four (Part II - Nottingham)

This year of the course is undertaken at the University of Nottingham UK. This year you will apply the knowledge and skills you have acquired by undertaking an individual project. You may select a topic from a list proposed by a member of staff or propose an idea of your own. You will also study larger scale, strategic and human resource management. You will also select four optional modules from a range available within the School of Computer Science and two more from the Business School.
