International scholarship students operate under the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) and have duties on campus for up to 36 hours a week. Within these duties scholarship students have the opportunity to work in many roles, both as student and faculty support, and to work independently. Scholarship students work with lecturers and tutors as teaching assistants and advisors; advise and support students on both academic programs and extracurricular activities; work in digital learning environments; attend cultural events; work in the local community through the university, and a host of other roles. Beyond assisting the department and students, scholarship students complete a 10 credit Chinese culture & language class.

  Scholarship Programme  




  • Duration of one academic year, approximately September–May
  • 36 hour per week, with 10+ to be credited for Chinese language and culture classes
  • Monthly stipend of 5000RMB
  • On campus housing provided
  • National insurance provided
  • Visa assistance provided
  • RT flight reimbursed on upon completion of contract
  • No Chinese language prerequisite, as the operating language of UNNC is English

Requirements for applicants

  • Graduated with bachelor’s degree in 2015, 2016 or 2017 (projected)
  • Circa 3.4 GPA (US), 2.1 (UK), or equivalent from home country
  • Though a background/undergraduate in education, linguistics, or English is beneficial, it’s certainly not required. However, the candidate must be a native/native-like English speaker, and very confident in their English writing & communications skills, as language advising is integral to the role.
