Professor Yang Fujia

Chancellor of The University of Nottingham

Professor Yang Fujia, whose family comes from Ningbo, was born in June 1936 and is an internationally eminent physicist and a distinguished academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is also Vice-Chairman of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST). He is former chairman of Shanghai Association for Science and Technology (SAST) (1992-1996) and former president of the Shanghai Institute of Nuclear Research, Chinese Academy of Science (1987-2001).

Professor Yang is also the Bohr Professor of Fudan University (the first professor of physics named after Bohr in China). In 1984, he was recognized as an outstanding young scholar of national excellence for his brilliant contributions. In 1991, he was promoted to academician of the Chinese Academy of Science and the Science Academy of the Third World, and in 1998 he was conferred an honorary professorship in Physics by the American Vanderbilt University. Professor Yang also holds Honorary Doctorates from Soka University (science) in Japan, New York State University (Humanities) and Hong Kong University, University of Nottingham (UK) and University of Connecticut (USA).

Professor Yang is also internationally recognized as an outstanding university leader and is a former President of Fudan (1993-1998). He has served as the executive director of the Union of International University Presidents' since 1996. His appointment as Chancellor of the University of Nottingham is a truly unique one since he is the first Chinese national to occupy this prestigious position at a western university. His appointment as first President of The University of Nottingham Ningbo China is critical to ensure that the very highest standards of teaching and research are maintained.

Professor David Greenaway

Vice-Chancellor of The University of Nottingham

Professor David Greenaway took up the office of Vice-Chancellor of The University of Nottingham on October 1st 2008, succeeding Professor Sir Colin Campbell.

A Professor of Economics, he was previously a Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University, and was the founding Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Research on Globalisation and Economic Policy in The School of Economics.

Professor Greenaway's current public duties include chairing the UK Armed Forces Pay Review Body, and he is also a member of the UK Senior Salaries Review Body. He has served as a consultant to the World Bank, the European Commission, the United Nations, General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, and HM Treasury.

He chaired the Economics and Econometrics Panel for the UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) in 2008, and has previously served on the UK Economic and Social Research Council.

He is also Chair of the Scientific Advisory Council at the Institut für Weltwirtschaft at the University of Kiel, and a former Non-Executive Director of the Nottingham Health Authority and Queens Medical Centre Hospital Trust. Professor Greenaway's research interests are primarily in international trade, labour market adjustment, cross border investment and trade policy. The Vice-Chancellor continues to teach in The School of Economics.

Before joining The University of Nottingham in 1987 the Vice-Chancellor held appointments at Leicester Polytechnic and the University of Buckingham. He took up his first position at Nottingham in 1987 as Head of the Department of Economics. He served as a Pro-Vice-Chancellor from 1994-2001, and was closely involved with the development of the University's Jubilee Campus, and the establishment of the National College of School Leadership.

Mme Xu Yafen

Chairwoman of Wanli Education Group and Wanli University 

Ms Xu Yafen, born in Ningbo in the February of 1957, became a party member of CPC in the June of 1981.She is now chairwoman of Zhejiang Wanli Education Group as well as Zhejiang Wanli University and holds an honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Dundee in Scotland UK. She is a visiting Professor of Tsinghua University, a research fellow of the Human Science Institute of Management Science Academy of China. Mme Xu is a representative of the 11th CPC Party's Congress of Zhejiang Province and member of Zhejiang CPPCC Committee. She has been warded a number of honorary titles such as March 8 Red Flag Bearer, National Trade Model Worker, Excellent Party Member of CPC in Zhejiang, Nominee for the Third and Fourth National Top Ten Outstanding Women.

Wanli Education Group, created by Ms Xu Yafen, has already established a national reputation for academic excellence and her leadership qualities in the education sector have already been highly praised by former Vice-premier Li Lanqing, Vice president Zeng Qinghong and former Minister of Education and now State Councilor Mme Chen Zhili. Mme Xu has already made a considerable contribution to educational reform in China contributed a lot to the reform of China's Education. Ms Xu Yafen is also popular with teaching staffs and nationally renowned for her enterprising spirit, integrity, personal charm and dynamic leadership. She has published many papers on psychology, behavior science, management, education and other fields in national and provincial academic journals. In-depth coverage of her outstanding efforts have been carried in such prestigious newspapers as People's Daily, China Education Daily, Jinghua Times, Zhejiang Education Daily, Ningbo Daily, Macao Daily, China Times and other publications and her international reputation is also considerable due to her role in the development of linkages with foreign universities with Wanli University and now as Chairman of The University of Nottingham Ningbo China.

Professor Hua Changhui

Party Secretary of The University of Nottingham Ningbo China

Professor Hua Changhui is Party Secretary of UNNC. He was formerly Director of the Ningbo Municipal Education Bureau, National Education Supervisor and is currently Vice-Chairman of the Ningbo Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Professor Hua has been doing studies on education theories and practices for years. His publications include books – ‘Patriotism and Social Reform’, ‘Analysis on Ningbo Education’, ‘Education is Service’ and more than 70 articles on national journals and newspapers including ‘Higher Education Studies’, ‘People’s Education’, ‘Education Development Studies’, ‘People’s Daily’, ‘China Education’ and etc. He was also the Editor-in-Chief for books ‘Case Study of Innovative Education’ and ‘Education Innovation’.

Professor Nick Miles

Provost and CEO of The University of Nottingham Ningbo China

Professor Nick Miles is Provost and Chief Executive Officer of The University of Nottingham Ningbo China. He was formerly Dean of Science and Engineering at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China and Head of the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at The University of Nottingham UK.

Professor Miles is a mineral processing engineer with an extensive research portfolio (completed 40 PhD supervisions) supported through UK Research Council, European, UK government and industry funding and a strong record of inter-disciplinary research with colleagues in the physical sciences, including Chemistry and Physics. He also has a broad experience of knowledge transfer and commercialisation of research and was jointly responsible for setting up the Environmental Technology Centre - a resource centre that delivers technology transfer, environmental and business support for SMEs.
