The University's Prestigious Supporters

The University held its first Undergraduate Graduation Ceremony and Mr Li Dak Sum Honorary Doctorate Conferment ceremony on 5^th July 2008.  Mr Zhao Hongzhu, Secretary of Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Mr Lu Zushan, Deputy Secretary of Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Governor sent a letter of congratulation and expressed warmest congratulations and best wishes to the University and granduands. Mr Bayin-Chaolu, Secretary of Municipal Party Committee gave Mr Li Dak Sum, President Yang Fujia and many distinguished guests a welcome banquet and expressed his sincere congratulations to the University graduands. Mr Wang Zhuohui, President of Zhejiang CPPCC, Mr Tang Yijun, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Mr Cheng Yuechong, Vice-mayor, other government leaders and over 30 distinguished guests from Hong Kong attended the ceremony.

On June 19 2008, at the invitation of Professor Yang Fujia, Chancellor of Nottingham University UK and President of Nottingham University Ningbo, China, Nobel laureate Dr. Tsung Dao Lee visited the campus and delivered a wonderful speech entitled ‘From Galileo to Einstein'.

The launch of the Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies (CSET) was held in the University International Conference Hall on 23^rd May, 2008. Mr. Gul Nawaz Khan, Lord Mayor of Nottingham City, Mr. Zhao Hongyan, Representative from Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Mr. Huang Shili, Head of Ningbo Education Bureau, Mr. Fang Xibiao, Deputy Director of Ningbo Municipal Construction Committee, Ms Lin Qichun, Assistant Director of Ningbo Municipal Environment Protection Bureau, Mr. Shen Lei, Deputy Director and Chief Planning Officer of Ningbo Planning Bureau, and Mr. Chen Jianzhang, Office Director of Ningbo Science and Technology Bureau and many other distinguished guests attended the ceremony.

At the invitation of the University, the Honorable Maurice F. Strong, Under Secretary General and Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the United Nations visited the campus and delivered an inspiring and thought provoking speech on environmental protection, climate change and sustainable development on March 30, 2008.

The University of Nottingham Ningbo, China established the Industry, Education and Research Consultative Committee and held the first foundation meeting on December 2^nd, 2007 in the International Conference Centre. Sixteen experts from local government offices were invited to be committee members. These experts will provide guidance and support to UNNC in terms of program development, scientific research, technological innovation, and collaboration with local industries.

The Centre for Global Finance at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China marked its launch on 15^th September 2007.  Ms Carma Elliot OBE, British Consul General, Mr. Su Limian, Vice Mayor of the City of Ningbo, Mr. Ding Minzhe, Director of the Financial Affairs Office of Zhejiang Provincial Government, and Mr. Kin-Kwok Chung, Chairman of the Maxdo Group Ltd, Hong Kong and his wife Mrs Chung attended the launch event.

Mr Lu Zushan, Governor of Zhejiang Province met with Sir Colin Campbell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nottingham on June 19^th 2007. Mr Lu said the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China was a good model of Sino-foreign cooperation in education and believed that the University would become a first-class international higher education institution in the future.
