The conference venue is situated around 30 minutes by taxi from the city centre. Should you be interested in adding a few days' vacation to your trip, you will find that from here you have easy access to shopping, outdoor activities, sightseeing, and day trip destinations. Whatever you would like to do, Ningbo has something for everyone.

Laowai Tan (Old Bund) £¨ÀÏÍâ̲£©
This redeveloped ¡®old town¡¯ now houses a complex of bars and restaurants close to the river. The nearby Portuguese church is lit up at night.
Shopping
Tianyi Square (Central Business District). This is a well-designed business centre including various shops, department stores and supermarkets. Here, you can find clothes, cosmetics, home appliances and small souvenirs. Prices range from high to modest. It takes about 30 minutes by taxi or 40 minutes by bus 363/206 from the conference venue to Tianyi Square.
Wanda Plaza. Primarily a modern shopping centre but includes a cinema, KTV (Karaoke), coffee shops, and a gym and restaurants as well several modern residential areas. About 10 minutes by taxi from the conference venue.
Cheng Huang Temple Pedestrian Street (the City God's Temple Pedestrian Street) is an integration of shopping, amusement and food. Goods from clothes, to headgear and cosmetics are all available here. It takes about 30 minutes by taxi or 40 minutes by bus 363/206 from the conference venue to Cheng Huang Temple Pedestrian Street.

Sightseeing
There are several historical sites and areas of interest in and close to the city itself:
Seven Pagoda Temple ( ÆßËþË )
The pagoda is an excellent example of a Buddhist temple with some impressive carvings and statues.
Tianfeng Tower £¨Ìì·åËþ£©
The tower gives good views of the fast disappearing old parts of Ningbo. Moon Park with its lovely tea house and museum is a must. The nearby drum tower leads onto a large old-fashioned shopping area with art shops and antique shops.
Hemudu Relics £¨ºÓÄ·¶ÉÒÅÖ·£©
Hemudu relics have been verified to have a history of 7000 years. From the site, large amounts of rice, animal remains, fruit, wooden buildings, oars, thousands of ceramic vessels and primitive handcrafts have been excavated.
Baguo Temple £¨±¦¹úË£©
Baoguo Temple is one of the oldest and best preserved wooden structures in the South Yangzte region of China. It has a history of 990 years. The Grand Hall of the temple was built in the North Song Dynasty and has become a valuable demonstration of traditional Chinese architectural technology.
Dongqian Lake £¨¶«Ç®ºþ£©
Slightly outside the city is a large lake area which is surrounded by hills. The lake can be reached by taxi (approximately 40 RMB). There are opportunities to walk or cycle here.

Arrangements for Workshop Day: Saturday 13th November
Beyond Mandarin will offer the following optional service and arrangements for participants.
1.Free: Ningbo city & travel guide book (in Chinese and English) and advisory service
On the first day of the Conference (Thursday 11th November), Beyond Mandarin staff will be in the Registration area. They will give out free Ningbo travel guide book to every participant. Free advisory service will also be provided to those who don¡¯t have enough time to join the organized trip (see below) and maybe would like to see around themselves.
Ningbo is not as big a city as Shanghai or Hangzhou. For the Chinese participants who would just like to see around the city center, with our advisory service and the guide book, they can easily arrange activities themselves.
For foreign participants who would like to see around themselves, we offer a charged service including English translation, and a tour and shopping guide. Please check Item 2 below for more information.
For participants who would like to join an organized trip, please check Item 3 below for more information.
2. English translation, tour and shopping guide
Beyond Mandarin offers a charged service of English translation, a tour and shopping guide to foreign participants who would like to go sightseeing themselves. Participants who need this service can reserve it at the Beyond Mandarin desk in the Registration area on 11th, November.
(1) Full day tour (8 hours / day), RMB 800 / day.
(2) Hourly Service, RMB 200 / hour (2 hours service at least).
Note: Service fee is charged by group, no matter how many people there are in a group. The transportation, meals, site tickets and any other fee which may come up during the tour are not included. The clients should pay these items for the translator as well.
3. Organized Trip to Xikou Tourist Area
Brief Introduction to Spots
Xikou Tourist Resort, a famous scenic spot in China, consists of three sections, namely, Xikou Town, Xuedou Mountain and Tingxia Lake. The former residence of Chiang Kai-shek, a State Culture Relics protection Unit is also located here. Chiang Kai-shek was born in Yutai Salt Shop and lived in Fenggao House, and elegant Chinese-style building. In addition to the cultural spots, visitors can also enjoy the beautiful surrounding of the natural landscape and get into perfect harmony with nature.
Reasons to go:
1. symbol of Ningbo city,
2. the only national AAAAA Class Scenic Spot in Ningbo,
3. one of the World Expo 2010 Experience Tour Spots.

Note: Tourists will just go to one section of Xikou Tourist Resort, namely, Xikou Town where the former residence of Chiang Kai-shek was born. In the town of typical south China style, tourist can visit the elegant Chiang Family buildings, and experience the traditional Chinese culture. If less than 30 people register for the half day trip, then it will have to be cancelled.
